β€œThe important thing is to never stop questioning.” – Albert Einstein

At Sunnyside Academy, our Science curriculum encourages children to be curious about the world around them and to think and work like scientists. Through engaging, hands-on experiments and investigations, pupils are encouraged to ask questions, explore how things work and make sensible predictions using what they already know. Science lessons spark excitement and help children develop a genuine interest in understanding the world they live in.

As they work together, pupils learn to share ideas, listen to others and persevere when investigations are challenging. They develop confidence, independence and resilience, learning that mistakes are an important part of scientific discovery. Children are taught to explain their thinking using accurate scientific language and to apply skills from Mathematics and English to measure, record and present their findings clearly.

By developing key scientific skills such as observing, predicting, testing and evaluating, and by learning how to use equipment safely, children gain valuable, transferable skills that can be used beyond the classroom. Our aim is for pupils to leave Sunnyside Academy with a strong understanding of science, a sense of curiosity and the confidence to ask questions about the world around them.
